Guide to Big Sky
Big Sky is an all season mountain resort in Montana, located just one hour south of the University town of Bozeman and one hour north of the world renowned Yellowstone National Park. It is easily accessed by flights to Bozeman airport ( with multiple daily services from most major US air travel hubs) and during the summer months by a more limited service to West Yellowstone. Big Sky is also conveniently located just off Highway 191 that links the Yellowstone Park with the Glacier National Park – a road used by many on summer road trips of the area.
Our Rentals in Big Sky
Big Sky in Winter
Big Sky was developed and made it’s name as a Ski Resort. First opened in 1973 by Chet Huntley with just 5 lifts operating on Andesite and the lower slopes of Lone Peak Mountain, the resort grew quickly after being acquired by Boyne, and now (in conjunction with neighboring Moonlight Basin Ski Resort) comprises the biggest ski area (by both acreage and vertical height) in the USA. All of our properties have convenient ski in / out access to both Big Sky and Moonlight ski areas.
Big Sky in Summer
While it was originally built as a ski village, the availability of quality properties and services has made Big Sky increasingly popular as a summer get away. The immediate area features excellent hunting, trout fishing on the Gallatin River (made famous in the movie “A River runs through it” ), Golf, Mountain biking, Zip Line and more. Big Sky is just on the periphery of Yellowstone National park, and just one hours drive from the most popular park entrance at West Yellowstone – where you will also find the Grizzly bear and Wolf Discovery Center, an i-Max cinema and a host of other attractions. All this makes Big Sky an excellent base for a weeks summer stay to visit all the local attractions, without facing the overcrowding and congestion of the more popular park entry points.
